More than just a travel book
This is a beautifully written travel book by an intelligent, perceptive young man.

I loved reading about Patrick Leigh Fermor's journey through Europe and about all of the interesting people that he met along the way.

After previewing "A Time of Gifts" on my Kindle, which began with a glowing introduction by Jan Morris and a rather colorful letter that Fermor sent to his publisher and friend Xan Fielding along with the original manuscript, I was quite enthralled at the prospect of what lay ahead for this precocious miscreant on his big European adventure, and I ordered a paperback copy of the book.
