I enjoy the Giulini/Los Angeles partnership in this recording!
Carlo Maria Giulini was music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic from 1978-1984, beginning upon the departure of Zubin Mehta (mus.
Hearing it again on CD I was not disappointed. The recording is superb-late analogue and has transfered ...
I remember buying the LP when it was released in 1979 and thoroughly enjoying it then.
another winner for Guilini and LAPO
I saw this disc in my local second-hand store, and I bought it because I had been very impressed by Guilini's Brahms First with this orchestra -- the combination of the DG recording team with the venue and this orchestra and conductor seems to work particularly well.
Giuilni's relaxed and paced Eroica - a matter of preferences
Giulini fans comprehend his slower tempos as a way of clarifying musical scores and avoiding sloppy musical ensemble.
A masterpiece of dramatic phrasing
I recently purchased a complete Beethoven set by another conductor.
My favourite 3rd, EVER
Well the title says it all.
much much too slow
I love slow tempi, and I love Giulini, and I love the Eroica, but I can't stand this performance, except for the slow movement.
Majestic and tragical
Giulini's reading of Beethoven's \"Eroica\", in my opinion, is the deepest, the second movement is truly tragical, more tragic than by any another conductor; and sound is also very good.
Can't get behind it.
The Giulini/LAPO recording of Beethoven's 5th symphony is head and shoulders above the rest, Carlos Kleiber included.
Giulini in his late style--wise, slow, expressive
If you want an ultra-dynamic or fervent reading of the Eroica, Giulini's 1979 version from Los Angeles won't satisfy--at 20 min.
