L'autore

John Donne was born into a Catholic family in 1572. After a conventional education at Hart Hall, Oxford, and Lincoln's Inn, he took part in the Earl of Essex's expedition to the Azores in 1597. He secretly married Anne More in December 1601, and was imprisoned by her father, Sir George, in the Fleet two months later. He was ordained priest in January 1615, and proceeded to a Doctorate of Divinity at Cambridge in April of that year. In 1621 he was made Dean of St. Paul's in London, a post which he held until his death in 1631. He is famous for the sermons he preached in his later years as well as for his poems.

I only bought this product due to my having to study it at college, and was only really judging it based on its look. I will say it looks really nice, the pages are really printed well so that was all fine, but it wasn't untill i actually started reading it that i fell in love with the text.

It started with reading the introduction that establsished Donne as a man at odds with the world he was casted into, this precosious young man found himself as a poet and was daring and very contriversal. The poems themselves are so diverse in style and emotion, some have made me laugh uncontrollably with the satire and argument preposed, and others have made me weep real tears through turmoil ellicited from the heart-felt text.

Another thing about this is that i really feel i've matured from reading the text, not only in knowledge from leaning of the contexts, the uses , the rhymes etc. But i've grown as a character through experiencing the spectrum of emotions he puts forth, and i guess this is the wonder of literature and art by extention. would reccomend to anyone intrested in poetry or looking into personal growth.
