From blogger Lappone- It is rare to find a knitting book this well written and that provides this amount of useful information. And it deserves to be read by knitters all over the world. Just under 300 pages and propped with knowledge it is one of the best books on knitting that I have read. Anne Bårdsgård is an educated Norwegian artist. Textile's has always been dominant in her expression and her work is rewarded and shown in various exhibitions in Norway.

For anyone with more than a passing interest in Norwegian mittens, this book is a must-have. The charts are a fantastic resource, and the section on mitten characteristics an excellent guide for the knitter wanting to design mittens in the Selbu tradition. --Carolyn Vance, TKGA

L'autore

Anne Bårdsgård (b. 1966) is a craftswoman with an education from the Department of Textiles at the Bergen University College of Art. She has had several solo exhibitions and participated in a number of collective exhibitions at home and abroad. Her works have been purchased by Norwegian art industry museums, the Arts Council, and the Foundation for the decoration of public buildings and more. Bårdsgård has grown up in Selbu, in 2013, she got an idea: Was it possible to collect, register and transcribe patterns from Selbu and collect them in book form to put the motto production in Selbu in a national cultural-historical context? The book Selbuvotter is a successful result of the project. She currently resides in Selbu a municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway.

Short of semi glossy pages making fun to read in some lighting situations, this book is a good well rounded piece. The brief histories of people and their traditions which lead to a continued movement will help those who are curious about this style of knitting to pick up on the where it came from.

There are patterns charted on graph form which are ledgable under the right lighting. Anyone who can count stitches can use these charts with ease. The only other drawback is the 'master patterns' to create the socks, hats, and sweaters was a bit tricky to follow. Extra care of reading the pattern and trying to work it up is equal to making a swatch for level of importance prior to applying their charts.
