After reading "Jewell, a Chapter in her Life," I was delighted to find this continuation of the story. It wasn't quite as inspiring as the first book, but nevertheless presented many of the truths we learn in our study of Christian Science in a child-like manner. I thoroughly enjoyed it and looking forward to reading the next book by the author and mentioned on the MBE Library web page.

I have the Original hard cover book Jewel, A chapter in Her Life and have read it many, many times. It is a healing in itself. This book picks up where the first book ends and is almost as good. Jewel is such a great little girl who is growing up in divine love and happiness.

The book is a sequel to an earlier one in which a little girl (Jewel) goes to stay with her rich but estranged grandfather. In this story, her parents return with a book of stories written by her mother. Most of the novel is centred around the stories in this book and how the relationships between the adults are transformed under Jewel's influence.

If it weren't for the strong underlying, and often obvious, intent to preach the theories of Christian Science, this would have been a sweet book on the lines of "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm", the Green Gables series or Louisa May Alcott's books. The focus on Christian Science is distracting and, after a while, interferes with the reader's ability to lose themselves in the plot.

If one is willing to either be enticed into finding more about Christian Science or to ignore all the heavy hints, 'Jewel's Storybook' is a pleasant read.
