Who Sent Clement? (English Edition) Formato Kindle
"A genuine page-turner which manages to seamlessly combine nostalgia, suspense, and mystery — all laced with a healthy measure of British humour."
Beth Baxter always dreamt of being an author. Unfortunately, fate has a twisted sense of humour so rather than writing books, she now sells them in a second-hand bookshop. With middle-age approaching and her life unfulfilled, Beth is at least grateful her forthcoming marriage to Karl is worthy of hope — or, so she thought.
When her fiancé’s sordid past catches up with him, Beth finds herself embroiled in a sinister game of hide and seek. As her life is torn apart and all appears lost, Beth is thrown an unlikely lifeline when a former gangland fixer called Clement crashes into her life, offering to help.
Unfortunately for Beth, there is one minor complication with her saviour — Clement claims he died in 1975 and must help Beth as penance for sins committed in his previous life.
With just seven days to avoid a fate she can’t bear to contemplate, Beth chooses the lesser of two evils and reluctantly joins her deluded, politically incorrect companion on a quest across London in search of a solution.
Will this unlikely partnership succeed? Will Clement ever come to terms with paying five quid for a pint? And will Beth ever learn the truth about who sent Clement?
“Feelgood fiction for fans of the BBC’s Life on Mars. This book begs to be made into a film or TV drama.”
“Yet again Pearson fully hits the spot with a genius (and rare) balance of comedy, nostalgia & intrigue.”
“An author who really knows how to engage with the reader. He makes the unbelievable believable.”
“Big, brash and beautifully flawed - Clement is my kind of hero!”

In the books “Meeting Mungo Thunk,” and the three Clement series books (so far) (1) “Who sent Clement,” (2) “Wrong’un,” and (3) “Clawthorne,” this author Keith A. Pearson, has written exceptional, amusing, gripping, inspirational, intriguing, stimulating, thrilling, sometimes gritty, and compelling page-turners. Every one of these is of a consistently high standard in all respects, and mostly based in or around London, England, in the modern digital era. Characters are so well developed that each book feels like reading about real, believable people rather than fictional characters.
.
As I tend to read in bed, I “burned the midnight oil” while reading each of them, and so suffered sleep deprivation. Fortunately, in Kindle format, it is possible to read with the light out so as not to disturb others. In each of these four equally enthralling books, I felt quite wrung-out by the plot, in which I became so invested that I could not put the books down.
.
At least not until I had either finished them, or I was overcome by Morpheus (Greek god of dreams and the son of Hypnos, the god of sleep). If by then unfinished, it takes great will-power to put the book down for another day, and I eagerly awaited the first chance to resume where I left off.
.
Each book involves a very human, fallible, and mostly likeable person whose life is far from ideal, nor is it what they truly want. For this central character (different in each case) I developed great empathy and soon could not help but identify with them in one way or another.
.
But then life suddenly takes a wrong turn for them and then, just when things appear hopeless, they suddenly get even worse. The main character becomes a victim of a maelstrom of unforeseeable circumstances, each coming out of the blue. And life is turned upside down when they become sucked into an ever-worsening, desperate, and impossible cluster of unwanted personal disasters or dangers. All of which is tinged with humour, albeit sometimes gallows humour.
.
This calamitous progression is not of their own making, except in that we all make some bad decisions and cannot control what other people do, or have done, or about which they have deceived us.
.
But the problems are mostly owing to a combination of bad luck and the consequences of other people’s bad attitude, deceptions, lies, crimes, or betrayal. There seems to be no hope and no obvious solution, as the plot escalates nightmarishly with a dark humour. It seems that the victim will soon lose everything they love and value. Life seems hopeless.
.
Then along comes a very odd, mysterious, unlikely, and unconventional saviour, or hero, at first hard to trust or believe owing to his own odd demeanour, peculiarities and foibles, but who tries very hard to help.
.
This is no easy task and events take many unexpected turns. The odds seem stacked heavily against success, and seem to get steadily worse. To the very end the plot is filled with surprising twists and turns, and it seems impossible that any desirable outcome can possibly be achieved.
.
I dare not say what happens in the end, as that would be a spoiler. But suffice it to say that in getting there, en route, I began to believe in Fate. A cracking good read.
I've become quite a fan of Keith's and fear I'm nearing the end of his books
