"Long Story Short"

This device to use as a wireless shutter for my Sony A7M4, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it has many more functions than a regular wireless shutter. It can operate in different modes such as shutter only, delayed, continuous, timer and bulb. It also allows me to set the timer duration with the remote, which is very convenient. I tested these modes on my camera and they all worked flawlessly. I was able to take pictures from a distance without any interference or delay.

The device consists of a transmitter and a receiver that communicate via infrared signals. Both of them require simple AAA batteries, which are not included in the package, so you have to buy them separately. The batteries make the units quite heavy and bulky, which is a downside. They are not very ergonomic or easy to hold. The receiver has a shoe mount that can be attached to the top of the camera, but this means that you cannot use a flash at the same time. This might be a problem for some situations where you need extra lighting.

The LCD screen on the transmitter has a backlight that makes it visible even in bright light. However, the screen is very basic and uses simple characters to indicate the modes and settings. For example, S stands for shutter mode, B stands for bulb mode, and so on. It is not very intuitive or user-friendly. You have to read the manual carefully to understand what each symbol means and how to change them. The manual is not very clear either, so it might take some time and trial and error to figure everything out.

The delay and time-lapse features are useful for creative photography, but they are also hard to set up. You have to press the set buttons repeatedly and scroll through the numbers to change the delay time or the number of pictures you want to take. It is not very precise or fast. You might miss some shots or get frustrated by the process. It would be better if there was a dial or a slider to adjust these settings more easily.

Overall, this is a versatile and functional device that can do more than a wireless shutter. It works well with my camera and gives me more options for taking pictures remotely. However, it is also heavy, bulky, uncomfortable and complicated to use. It is not a plug-and-play device that you can use right away without reading the manual or practicing with it. It has some room for improvement in terms of design and user interface. If you are looking for a simple wireless shutter, this might be overkill for you. But if you are looking for something more advanced and don’t mind the learning curve, this might be a good choice.

Keep in mind that if mounted on the camera’s hot shoe, you’ll have no flash. This wasn’t a huge concern for me.

S for shudder mode, B for the bulb etc. It is quite self-explanatory but rather basic nevertheless. As far as the other modes, the delay feature actually works. Nachdem man sich in die Funktionsweise eingearbeitet hat, funktioniert das Gerät wie es soll. Leider gibt es die Anleitung nicht in deutscher Sprache, was ich bei einem solchen Gerät der Verständnis halber als sehr sinnvoll erachte. Man sollte also wenigstens Englisch beherrschen.
Die Verarbeitung ist in Ordnung, was mich allerdings stört ist der Umstand, dass zwar das Display beleuchtet ist, aber man erkennt nicht auf welcher Position man sich gerade befindet, da der Teil wo Delay, Long etc. steht nicht mehr beleuchtet ist.
Die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Auslöser und Kamera klappt ohne Probleme. Auch die Druckpunkte des Auslösers sind gut, so dass man wirklich erst automatisch fokussieren und dann auslösen kann.

Das Produkt fiel mir bei einem professionellen Fotografen auf. Die Bedienung ist nach einem kurzen Ausprobieren und Recherchieren im WWW relativ einfach. Der große Vorteil ist, dass man handelsübliche Batterien benutzen kann, die man relativ einfach überall bekommt. Somit entfällt das Aufladen von fest verbauten Akkus.
