So glad this is a library book
This is a muddy, poorly conceived book with a protagonist I can't care about.

As a kind of cross between the traditional technothriller and the zombie apocalypse novel , Nate Kenyon's Day One introduces nightmare-plagued, struggling journalist John Hawke, whose shady hacker past is coming back to haunt him in unexpected ways.

I have no idea what book the four and five star reviewers were reading, but it wasn't this one.
Action packed story
The synopsis for Day One begins with the statement, "Cloverfield meets The Terminator in this story of one man's escape from New York City as technology becomes sentient," which is a very good description of the novel.

Interesting Plot........with Stilted Writing
While Kenyon is certain no Hemingway or Faulkner, he does get the job done in describing a technological nightmare.
