A Murder and Another Mystery Set in Occupied Japan
This book is unusual for its setting , its point of view and its experimental writing style.
Not My Favorite
If you want something depressing with no answer to your questions and no ultimate point except that humanity sucks, then this is a very literary way to get your fix..
the book is alright, read it as you go
A Brit writer in his late thirties writing in the begining of the XXI century a first person narrative from the point of view of a middle aged Japanese detective who lived in the middle of the XX century, how could it not go wrong, and it does, a lot, from the beginning, but that's alright, it's different from other mistery books, it's poetic at times, true at others it's pretentious, but then it's intense, some repetitions are annoying, read it the way you watch a \"B\" movie, and if you still dont like it, then dont finish it, that's alight too....
No, not pretty
Crime in the midst of defeat, hunger and devastation.
Insufferably mannered...
Unlike some of the other reviewers, I was able to get through this entire book, although it was a tough slog indeed.
Unreadable
.....
Alabama Bob
As a member of the Army of Occupation in \"Tokyo Year Zero\", this novel brought back many memories of the conditions in that demolished city that year.
too difficult to read
Ugh.
Tragically awful novel
Worst novel I've read in 2012.
Repetition kills what would be a good book
Tokyo Year Zero starts off good.
